A bit higher priced than we’d like, but good overall value and performance.
Lennox XP25 (4 ton) is about as good as it gets. Quiet, cheap to run 20.5 SEER), WiFi thermostat … what’s not to like. Expensive, but first class piece of equipment.
Ron, when did you purchase your XP25? Also, what state do you live in? We’ve heard very negative reviews for this heat pump from people who live in states that experience snow in the winter.
Have you seen any significant difference in your energy costs since the installation of this unit? Thanks in advance for your input.
Lori, Heat pumps are not great for climates that get snow since the heating unit is outside and will not be as efficient. Hope this helps.
If you want the best be prepared to pay the premium. Not for bargain hunters. My XP25 is so quiet that I never hear it running and so efficient that my electric bill is down to $125 per month … Previously it was $175 … just an excellent product!
Lennox HP25-311-1P. Installed this heat pump 20 years ago (04-22-1994). Replaced outside unit fan motor last year due to ice build up. No other problems…People tell me I should replace it before it needs repairs or dies. So I am thinking Lennox.
if you can get a cover diffuser on the top it will eliminate any ice buildup inside the unit, I am getting one installed on my HP25-311-2P now I don’t know the difference between the 1P and 2P is it one phase two phase thing , maybe but it is very hard to know since I can’t seem to find any info on the WEB about the difference and all, If you know let me know. Thank you
I live in mid Florida , so unit works mostly as air . I had this unit HP25-311 2p installed in Aug. 1996 . It immediately cut my power bill by 35% . Had to call for a service for the ABSOLUTE 1st time since it was installed on Dec.5 2016 , so 20 1/2 years without even a service call . When I turned to heat the increased pressure in air handler caused coils to leak all R22 . Too expensive to repair . These units were probably the BEST units EVER made , I don’t think can be replaced with any thing near as good
HP22-311-2P installed in ’92. Compressor just failed. Getting noisy for the last year or two.
In 1.5 years of ownership my heat pump has stopped running 7 times each on separate occasions. It was only 3 years old when I bought the house/unit and it is currently still under warranty.
I own a HP13 air flo lennox unit
– The refrigerant has leaked out completely on two separate occasions from pin hole leaks located inside the manufactured unit, – The shraider valve leaks, and the unit has been topped up three separate times at least, – two relays have been replaced, – the control board has been replaced, – unit is currently not operating and the technician doesn’t know why. Unit gives off multiple fault indicators and runs hot when it runs. Refrigerant level seems low and a faulty threeway valve is a suspect. It will require troubleshooting and guess and check style repair work…$$$ – back up electric heat is not operating as expected. The blower and electric heater doesn’t respond to the set point on the controller. There is only heat/fan on or heat/fan off available. I operate the back up heat from the electrical panel and breaker now.
Stay away from Lennox Air-flo at all costs
I would ask for a new unit, even if I had to pay some towards it. Maybe heat pumps are like cars, sometimes you get a lemon.
Sounds like our unit! We have the Lennox elite heat pump and have dumped so much money into this unit! Know seems to know how to keep it running in the winter! We never buy Lennox again
I have 2 lennox. The 3.5 ton(9 years old) breaks 3 or 4 times a year. The newer 2.5ton breaks about 2 a year. They are very expensive to keep running. I will be purchasing another brand next time. I think my 3.5 ton is to expensive to fix this time. When the heat turns on it goes to emergency heat and the a/c cooling will no longer work. 5 time it broke this year. Lennox has its parts built in China but they say it is engineered here. Still terrible quality parts.
Made the mistake of buying into the hype about Lennox quality. Live in Northern Maryland and bought the Top of the Line Dave Lennox Signature HPX19/4 ton heat pump in 2004. Had the compressor replaced after about 6 years – It took 2 weeks for my Lennox Premier Dealer to get the compressor in the middle of summer – even though I was on service contract with them! In July, 2012, I had to have a hard start kit installed. Now in March of 2015, the hard start kit had to replaced again indicating the compressor is going again.
Don’t ever mention Lennox to me again.
Purchased a New Lennox Heat Pump in May 2013. Had the Coil replaced in 2015 and we’re currently having to replace another Leaky Coil in less than 5 Years. The Price was reasonable when purchased in 2013 and it performs quite well as far as the Electrical Bill is concerned, but the (2) Leaky Coil Replacements within 5 Years is Crazy!!! Filled out an Application for a $75.00 Rebate for my next Service Visit and the Dealer would not honor it. Claims that I will receive the Rebate directly from Lennox, once they replace the 2nd Coil; and I cannot reach anyone from LENNOX to question them about it. I definitely would “NOT” recommend anyone buying a Unit from them, and if you purchase a house with this system in it; demand to have it replaced before you sign the papers. Unless your money grows on Trees, please don’t invest in a LENNOX Heat Pump.
We have a 3ton lennox unit I bought in 1984. That is 31 years. Not bad for a $1000 investment back then. It is a side discharge unit, you can’t get those anymore. To bad. It gave out on us a week ago. going to buy an 14HP. Top discharge. We get a lot of weather change here in Washington State. ( not Seattle) Hope it works out.
Really can’t even give it one star. Replaced my old unit with a Lennox xp-16 1.5 years ago and it has broken down three times since. I have had two capacitors replaced and now the refrigerant coil is leaking and I’m running on emergency heat while waiting for it to be fixed. Yes warranty covers parts only, not labor. Also found it to be noisy and had to buy the cover from the dealer to deaden the noise somewhat. I bought a Lennox heat pump to save money and as it turns out it is costing me a small fortune in repairs. I called Lennox to complain and got the “see your dealer” line from their consumer affairs department. From my experience with their consumer affairs department, they obviously don’t care about there products or there customers. So far it has cost $1200 in labor to fix a 1.5 year old unit that cost over 8K to install. It took 8 days running on emergency heat before it was fixed, waiting for a new coil etc.
We bought a Lennox mid line heat pump 7 years ago and it has been wonderful. no service calls or maintenance. It is a downstairs unit. At the time, there were tax credits so we saved a lot. Wish that was still true but that ended dec 2016 and our upstairs unit has gone kaput for the umpteenth time. It is a Goodman that was replaced about 9 years ago. I was warned not to get it but i didn’t listen. This was the model home 20+ years ago and both units were Goodman, builder grade. At the time of our inspection prior to purchase the inspector said the air from the upstairs unit wasn’t cold enough so that should have told us freon was leaking but we didn’t know not having had that problem before. more freon was added and it was fine for sev years. We r looking to replace the upstairs unit with a Lennox b/c we’ve had good luck with the one downstairs nd our neighbor has hers for 13 years without any service or maintenance and i”ve been told by a tech with another company they don’t sell them but he has them in his home as well as the rest of his family and they have been pleased with them.
Complaint is lack of dehumidication in air conditioning mode. I have the XP-17 2.5 ton single speed outdoor unit and upgraded variable speed air handler. Hoping annual maintenance will fix? It did not fix issue last year. Live in Phila., Pa. suburbs.
Purchased a brand new Lennox Heat Pump in April of 2016. Had nothing but problems an failures. Dismal performance as Air conditioning and even more dismal performance as a heater. I am ready to have the system completely removed by the company which installed it and go with another brand. This is the worst HVAC system I experienced in my life. Absolutely substandard performance and reliability and that includes the Air handler, which was already replaced once after 1 year. Consumers be aware!!!
July 2019 replaced 23 yr old heat pump with a Lennox 4ton heat pump Model 16HPX. AC works fine. When I switched to heat pump in Nov.the vibration noise in my bedroom 8 ft away was extreme. The copper pipes in wall to attic air handler vibrated wall and brick and all the way to the coil. Contractor replaced it through the eve. Very little help. He installed a blanket over comproser no help.I called Lennox they said have contractor call tech support for help. He did and per them he loustened bolts on comp, removed support bracket on line out of comp, installed dense insunlater on copper pipe from comp outside. Very little improvement in reducing vibration and noise in bedroom keeping me awake in AM hours. Line still vibrates. Another issue when switching from cool to heat I get much moisture in heated air at Sun room fogging up all 12 windows and moisture on table. Never had this problem with old unit. Will report problem to contractor again. I’m not satisfied! Also temp sensor in air handler went out reading Hi 130 Deg not allowing heater to run.
verry
Bought two LENNOX signature systems in 2014 for about 12K after reading how good they are. Well I was wrong, as of today I just put another $2500 into one unit for a evap coil that’s been leaking. Last month had to put a fan motor at $500 not to mention an outside coil 4 years ago at a cost of $1200 for labor (part was under warranty) not labor. Had numerous capacitors, miscellaneous items and an outside fan motor replaced at a cost of about $1700. I put enough money in my 6 year old LENNOX heat pumps to buy a new one not including maintenance done twice a year. So far I paid $17900.00 for a system that has been nothing but trouble. I would NOT RECOMMEND a LENNOX heat pump to anyone!
